August 28: Red Moon (Red Sturgeon Moon)

The Full Sturgeon Moon is known by a few tribes as the Full Red Moon because the moon rises looking reddish through sultry haze. A total lunar eclipse will coincide with moonset for the eastern United States. The Central and Mountain Time Zones will see the Moon's emergence moonset, while the western United States will see the entire eclipse.

In the Pacific Region, it is very much appreciated in the Philippines and Polynesian islands.

So after missing the Full Blue Moon last June, I am giving you a treat of the Red Moon which happened around 6:30 p.m. or a couple of hours ago.

Since the Chinese influence is so strong in the Philippines, my country shares the same belief with China where it is believed that a big dragon swallowed the moon. The red color is said to be the dragon's blood.

So my neighbors took out their drums, cans, pots and pans and made all sorts of noises asking for the dragon to return the moon.

It is also said that people with the signs of Pisces and Virgos are most affected by this Red Moon. These people are said to be irritable or in a very critical mood swing two days before and after the Red Moon - so that is from August 26-30. . So to those Fishes and Virgins out there, keep watch! If they do not display such disposition, they could be happy and cheerful. It will somehow affect the Geminis, too, who will feel light-headed.
