The most beautiful pearls in the country are found
somewhere in the Sulu archipelago where I live. A gypsy woman comes
regularly to my office to show her pearly ware..
Her husband, blinded with age, was a deep-sea diver for 60 years.
These black pearls are said to protect one against the evil spirits..
And these orange-peach pearls are said to bring peace and harmony..
She consented that I could take photos of her pearls..
And this is perfect for my 360 friend, RJ..
Even when the bi-valve shell has been split up, the pearls continue to grow. As you can see, one is about to come off while one is starting to gestate.
The Pearl of Allah, the largest pearl on record was found in the Philippines. It is almost 10 inches long and weighs an astounding 14 lbs. The Pearl's monetary value seems to be commensurate with its out-of-this-world dimensions. Experts estimate the value of the pearl to be around $40 million.
Well, the Philippines is not Pearl of the Orient Seas for nothing.
